Day 301: Take account.
” Fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you.” 2 Timothy 1:6
Breath, is a musical term that means to stop and take a breath. When playing with other
musicians, taking a breath at the same time is crucial to the flow of the song, so it’s written in right alongside the notes.
Today’s verse tells us to “fan into flame” our gifts from God. Just like a musician practices notes and breaths, we must use our talents to sharpen them. To set them on fire for God.
Gifts are not given in full bloom; they need to be developed through use. -NIV Notes
There are a few key things we can do to make sure the embers of our God-given gifts burn ready to catch ablaze.
- Believe. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, the Holy Spirit’s fire is lit in us, allowing us to unlock the potential that God has placed in our lives.
- Pray. When Jesus died on the cross, He opened up the channel of prayer directly to the Father. He promises to hear us when we cry out, and to help us when we are faltering. The answers may not always look the way we want them to, but we can trust that His plan is in motion and His heart is moved when we cry out to Him in prayer.
- Read. We’ve been given access to God’s Living Word, and the Spirit that lives in every Christian allows us to tap into the power of the Life. The Bible moves and breathes with the days of our lives, and God communicates His wise counsel through those sacred pages.
- Go. Live life in the shadow of His steps. Follow Him, and others will notice. We become extensions of His love when our gifts are in full bloom, and the purpose of our lives …to spread His love, becomes blinding.
Watering what we’ve been given takes a lifetime of faith, and a daily pursuit of happiness in the presence of our Father. Following Jesus guides us through the toils of life and to the purpose we were always created to manifest.
Father, Praise You for the seeds of our gifts. Thank You for watering them with Your Word. Forgive us for starving their growth, and bless us to follow close to Your Son and always within Your will for our lives. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
