“The skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1
“Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!”
I’ve already rolled over twice before my alarm sounds that it’s time to rise. The first
light of the sun arising is all the assurance my heart needs to know that God is with me. Always and everyday, His Light pierces through the horizon to awake all. We never question if the next day will come, and often let it slip in and out without really realizing how fleeting it …and all of our days …are.
Stride after stride, season after season, morning after morning, sunrise after sunrise …I look for Him in the sky …and He meets me there. On the edge of the pier at the mouth of the river, looking out at the vast great lake it flows into, my mind longs to drift out to the sea and into the sky. I ache for the comfort and joy of His arms.
Knowing that His brushstrokes paint the sky and His Light bounces off the water strengthens me to turn and walk back into the day He has planned and prepared for me to face. Through the sky, we somehow bond even though we’re realms a part.
The colors of the sky and the horizon as it meets the water are doodled over the pages of my childhood journals. He’s been guiding my life all along, telling me to straighten up …calling me to lead. I know what each morning means, and appreciate every stream of light and color as I walk down the pier to meet Him.
One day I’ll walk out to the end of that pier and soar over the gate, skimming on top of the water, and sailing up over the clouds to meet His embrace. Until then, daybreak is enough to fill my heart. Knowing it’s coming. Knowing He’s coming. That I am His. And He’s with me. #sweetJesus
Father, Praise You for the sunrise. Thank You for meeting me there each morning. Forgive me for the days when the weather and my laziness keep me from coming, and help me to seek You more each day I head back down the pier. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

“May all who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength.” Judges 5:31
A pink slit in the sky announces the giant ball of fire about to pierce through the clouds. The show of colors that come before the morning sun is sometimes more beautiful that the actual site of it rising. Once it comes up, it’s too bright to look at, but the anticipation of it’s rising is beautiful to behold. The smallest fractions of light bounce into an array of colors that is never the same way twice.
Today’s verse is a prayer at the end of a song written by Deborah to commemorate a national victory. It celebrates before the nations the righteous acts of the Lord and of his warriors. -NIV Study Bible Notes
Deborah declared our love for the Lord to be as powerful and unique as the mark each sunrise leaves on our hearts. She speaks as someone who had witnessed a lot of amazing sunrises in her lifetime. As someone who rushes out to meet the sky each day, I recognize the same marvel of power that so quietly comes up over the horizon.
Our faith doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful. When we walk with Christ, the light is visible. In fact, sometimes it’s little too much for some people. It’s strong and radiant and it reaches into the cracks of darkness all around and lights it up.
The people that we were meant to shine on in this life, and those meant to shine on us, are all unique. Like the sunrise each morning, each one of us comes alive on this earth in our own way …in our own time …with our own purpose. We follow the Son’s steps home to heaven, and in the time in between, love shines bright.
Father, Praise You for the sunrise! Thank You for each day being different than the last, from beginning to end. We confess our passing by of days without effort to notice and be blessed by the brushstrokes of Your love. Bless us to shine, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Pink sky fascinates me. When I see the start of a pink-skied sunrise, I rush through the
rest of my daybreak routine just to be as close to it as I can be before it’s at maximum pink capacity. I long to stand there and receive it.
Joseph’s brothers left him for dead, sold him to slavery, and then met him as royalty. Imagine their surprise. At the sight of his brother, Benjamin, Joseph wept. That’s probably not the reaction the rest of his family expected.
I believe Joseph’s first glance at his brother was an explosion of colorfully lit grace.
“Joseph’s sensitive heart was a miracle of God’s grace.” -Warren Wiersbe BE Bible Study Series.
How many times do we roll over and miss the sunrise?
“There is a way that seems right to man, but it leads to death.” Proverbs 14:12
Opportunities to lend grace to others surround us everyday. Forgiveness is even harder than it looks, but we can push past entitlement and onto a grace filled life by embracing the minutes Jesus sacrificed all of His for. Spending time with our Father each day sparks an explosion of color.
Father, You are powerful to save us from our own calamity. Praise You, for You are fair. Thank you for loving us. We confess that we hold onto grudges all too often, and ask that you soften our hearts to forgive. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
